Como decía el titular de una crítica, Not a night for purists but great fun !
Mariù ya hizo ayer una reseña del concierto, sólo tengo que añadir que el público disfrutó enormemente, y que Rolando se dejó la piel en el escenario.
Posiblemente no sea Handel lo que más convenga a su actual vocalidad, pero estos conciertos estaban pendientes y muchos, yo la primera, muy interesados en asistir. Fue una noche para disfrutar, arriba y abajo del escenario. Os dejo las fotos de Rolando, para que veáis la amplia gestualidad de la que hizo gala, y que hizo las delicias de los presentes.
Y también dos audios de las piezas que a mi me gustaron más, el Scherza, infida con que empezó la segunda parte, y un fragmento de Tamerlano, semi-escenificado (esta vez con total seriedad) con la estupenda soprano Lucy Crowe. La voz de Rolando se llena de delicadeza, terciopelo y viva emoción en estas interpretaciones.

ResponderEliminarBut, wow, the concert got some mixed reviews over here! The British Press has always been an awkward pack of dogs. Maybe Rolando should not have rattled that critic's cage earlier this year. The Guardian, Times and the Independent were scathing ... unjustifiably, listening to the audio evidence you've posted here. The Times even called the Gabrieli Players 'pallid'. Is their journalist deaf?
However, The Financial Times and The Telegraph gabe much more positive reviews. The Telegraph enjoyed the concert a great deal and gave it 4 stars.
I'll trust my ears and agree with the 4 stars. And this is why I'm grateful for the audios... Cheers!

ResponderEliminarThat Tamerlano is extraordinary. Both the soloists and the Gabriellis are terrifically exciting here.
It does sound as though Rolando had difficulty with the lower notes in Scherza, Infida but that matters so little, takes away so little from the great performance.
The critics are perhaps too unworldly in their expectations. Perfection doesn't exist and, if it did, it would be boring. I love this McCreesh/Villazon Handel. Handel with a bit of meat and sinew. That can't be a bad thing!

Disfrute mucho de éstos dos enlaces, sobre todo "Tamerlano" donde se percibe muy claramente la fibra dramática de Rolando.A mi me emocionó.
