MASTERS OF THEIR ART IN "DE MAISTRE AND FRIENDS"
With another exquisite choice of fabulous artists, Rolando brought us the bright top of musicians.with their supreme quality of their arts.
The performers were : Magali Mosnier, flute, Lucero Tena, castanets, Xavier de Maistre harp, Rolando, singing.
With the softest sounds of her musical instrument, Magali Mosnier played with Xavier de Maistre the Fantasy 124 by Saint-Saëns in an unusual combination of flute and harp. The composer is unfortunately rarely performed in Hungary, so it was a fine expérience to hear the virtuoso piece in this instrumental version without the more typical piano. The two superb performers offered all the passion and the great beauty of this music.
The Fantasy 79 by Fauré also had a "change" of instrument, the harp took over the role of the piano. This piece also has its highest demands in agility.
These were a wonderful starter to the concert.
Xavier de Maistre performed "Vltava" by Smetana, this symphonic poem for a large orchestra, but for this concert the artist played a version arranged for harp.
It was a full marvelous wonder, an extraordinary and exceptional musical creation : In the play of Xavier de Maistre, the harp made the whole orchestra, every musical instrument. The abundantly flowing, melodic passages were thrilling. The brilliant, delicate play of the fingers on the strings was exciting.
Endless skillfulness and mastery were also brought by Lucero Tena with her castagnets. I heard her play 15 years ago in a concert, also with Rolando in Berlin. The almost incredible play, the rhythmic sensibility, the scintillating, brilliant virtuosity of Lucero Tena have not lost anything over the years. The pieces by Albeniz and Giménez are difficult, they are characterized by extreme virtuosity. Lucero Tena is a phenomenon.
When I hear the first note of Rolando, I always feel the same way as at the very first time, 15 years ago : The emotional beauty of the voice holds me, I can't get enough of listening to it.
With his attractive, enchanting performance, Rolando showed all the fabulous magnificence and grandeur of the human voice and its commanding presence.
He chose "Melanconia" by Bellini, "Aprile" by Tosti, "Rondine al nido" by de Creszenzo and one of my biggest, most beloved favorites : "Musica proibita" which he always sings with a special magic. As usual, he mesmerized the audience through his compelling singing.
A concert that brought limitless warmth and an extended standing ovation from the audience who wanted to show its great appreciation!
KÖSZÖNÖM, ROLANDO!
