Der Sänger hatte ab Mitte 2007 wegen Erschöpfung sechs Monate pausiert.
Villazón kann sich nicht vorstellen, sein jetziges Leben noch lange weiterzuführen: „Mein Leben ist mehr als alles, was ich zu träumen gewagt hätte. Ich werde immer Opernsänger bleiben. Ich kann mir aber nicht vorstellen, bis zum 50. Lebensjahr von einer Oper zur nächsten zu hetzen“, so der Tenor. Er suche neue Herausforderungen. „Ich will beispielsweise bald als Regisseur arbeiten, obwohl ich eigentlich in meinem Hauptberuf Sänger mehr als genug zu tun habe. Aber ich will nicht warten. Und warum sollte ich?“
Villazón habe vor jedem Auftritt ein Ritual: „Ich schaue immer vorher in den Spiegel und sage laut: ´Vergiss´ nicht, heute ist der wichtigste Auftritt deines Lebens, gib´ alles.´
