ROLANDORFEO, Vienna - 28 10 2026
Due to the risk of falling into repetition, it is always a harder task to write for a second time about the same performance.
But when talking about Rolando, it's both yes and no. Harder to find new praising expressions and very easy to tell about the magnificence of his second Orfeo.
This was not just another immense and unforgettable opera evening - but a singing and acting magic offered by Rolando.
In my first chronicle I didn't tell about the very first surprises :
The enchantment began in the foyer of the Vienna State Opera, where a wedding invitation placard awaited the spectators entering the theater, and it continued in the auditorium where with their voices coming from "above", Orfeo and Euridice thanked us to be present and invited us to their wedding.
Before the beginning of the show, the members of the orchestra and the choir (as guests invited to the wedding) gathered for the ceremony in different parts of the auditorium, and the drums, too, made their entrance through the auditorium, with Monteverdi's majestic music played with grandeur, in a stately tempo.
Ascending in magnificent flow to me in the gallery, Rolando's voice, with its unparalleled, peerless beauty and its fantastic intensity offered a deepest emotional connection. It enveloped and embraced me tightly.
The quality of singing of the most beautiful and magic of all voices, its artistic expression are absolutely unique.
From the countless irresistible splendors of the voice, I now highlight just one :
"Addio terra, addio cielo e sole", sung with limitless beauty and emotions, and an ocean energy in the word "sole".
In the last moments of the opera, Orfeo holds the dead Euridice in his lap, while his other arm hangs down limply.
The curtain descends slowly ...
The most enormous success ! Long, warmest applause ! Standing ovations !
At the stage door, a musician (a lady, of course ♥️ ...) told her colleague about Rolando : "He is so sweet"
KÖSZÖNÖM, ROLANDO !

L’ORFEO – 25.10.26 Wiener Staatsoper
Die Referenzen waren mehr oder weniger klar, also das „Who’s who“ und „Where are we“ hat gepasst.
