ROLANDO as Orfeo - Vienna - 25 10 2026
An immensely great, amazing evening at the Vienna State Opera
Ten years of Rolando's Orfeo - Bremen, 2016 - Vienna, 2026.
And between these two dates, his fantastic Orfeo also in Dresden, Salzburg, Paris, Budapest ...
After hundreds and hundreds of performances with Rolando, there isn’t a single one where his art isn’t completely new, fresh..
This evening in Vienna with his Orfeo was special, extraordinary, but these expressions are hackneyed, and impossible to show that the audience has experienced.
The power of expression of his voice - an axiom, and what he expresses with his gestures, movements is another one !
Since I first heard Orfeo with Rolando in Bremen, in 2016, this piece by Monteverdi definitely ranks extremely high on the list of my absolute favorites.
Rolando's Orfeo is the whole world of human feelings. His voice expresses everything, all emotions, all meanings, his gestures, his movements emphasizing all even more strongly.
The highest tension is there.
The beauty of Rolando's voice being an axiom, yet, what we heard in his Orfeo in Vienna, was different.
The arias ("Rosa del ciel", "Vi ricorda", "Tu sei morta", "Possente spirto", "Orfeo son io", "Questi campi di traccia" ) offered the apotheosis of artist and voice.
And ! The perfect "trillo", Rolando is a virtuoso of "Trillo goat" with his amazing technique, where he rapidly repeats a single pitch, accelerating the throat vibrations.
The staging of Tom Morris allows Rolando to offer his vibrant acting, bright and full of colors, filled with excitement and energy.
Every moment of his acting would deserve to be cited.
But now just one that represented a world of its own in his performance :
Lamenting of the dead Euridice. No words to describe the deep emotional pain in Rolando's acting.
Perfection. Greatness.
