La chronique d'Eléonore :
ROLANDO, RE DI CRETA
Idomeneo, a long-awaited debut in an uncommon gem of Mozart
Even in the richest oeuvre of Mozart, Idomeneo is special. Its extreme monumentality makes it different. And the performance of Rolando offers the same breathtaking monumentality both in singing and acting.
The magical, magnificent voice at its finest shape enchanted with its countless shades, the fabulous luminosity being constantly there. Rolando's pianissimi and the very special way the voice goes from pianissimo to fortissimo is impressively great.
I've been listening to THE VOICE for sixteen years, and each time I discover new colors, new beauties, new forms of expression.
The role of Idomeneo offers Rolando an exceptional opportunity to depict every vibration of the human soul.
It is beyond words to be part of how this immense artist conveys the emotional depths of Idomeneo's suffering, and portrays the sorrow and anguish of the father..
Emily D'Angelo as Idamante, Slávka Zámečniková as Ilia, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller as Elettra and Jonah Hoskins as Arbace sang with perfect mastery, bringing a wonderful vocal and musical experience. The sound of the Staatsopernchor and the Staatskapelle Berlin under the baton of Alessandro De Marchi was superb. Loved also the orchestral parts of the opera.
The staging is stupendous. Its noble simplicity is combined with dynamism and extreme powerfulness. The impact stays with us, it accompanies us for a long time. Stage director David McVicar leaves it up to the spectators to interpret the events also for themselves.
The complete lack of sets, the only decoration being a huge skull, and the black background further strengthen the impressive effect of the performance.
The end of this version is unexpectedly dramatic, and the moment when the stage falls into complete darkness takes the breath away.
A majestic, imposing evening!
KÖSZÖNÖM, ROLANDO!
