The concert last night at the Royal Festival Hall was fantastic. Although it was announced that Rolando had a cold, he sang each aria so expressively that his performance overcame any negative effects and each one was greeted with enthusiastic applause. The character sketches he presents are so convincing that the characters seem magically to take him over. When the applause comes and breaks the spell, the character disappears and Rolando somehow "comes back". I noticed there is a little sigh from the audience just before the applause where everyone remembers to breath again!

I got talking to the lady to my left during the interval and she turned out to be Nola Rae the prestigious mime and clown artist that worked with Rolando on Werther and amazing Elisir d'amore in Baden-Baden. During our conversation I asked if she knew when the DVD might be released but unfortunately she believes there may not be one due to Miah Persson's illness. I hope she is mistaken.

She was lovely and said that she reads the Blog :) She described it as THE place to look for any news on Rolando and that he has often mentioned the blog and Villazonistas to her.

Putting the emotions that this concert aroused into words is difficult for me but during the performance, the coach home and the sleepless night afterwards (I felt like I wanted to go to a party!), I felt so alive and so connected to everyone I met. It was as if every cell of my being had been taken apart, scrubbed and put back together again. I don't think I'm the only one to feel like this! I met a very nice London-based Mexican lady in the queue waiting to get our CDs signed and she said she had never been to a concert where the audience were so "with" the performer. Of course, Rolando, was delighted to meet a fellow Mexican, as Alex has discovered, particularly when he learned she was from Veracruz and he sang a little of Veracruz to her to prove it!

I'm still living in the beautiful dream that was this performance.
