Let's forget about 7 seconds. This is in the past forever. Yesterday performance was amazing. Rolando's singing was energetic and appealing. He was in great form, also inspired and full of determination to be at his best. Voice sounded full, compact and resilient. Singing was virtually perfect except one or two the smallest grain of sand in the top which 99% of audience did not notice at all. It did not change enormous impression from all outline of role.
Sometimes you think that is impossible to act better that he does, but last night it was BETTER. May be vocal freedom allowed him to completely became Edgardo. He sang and acted with virile, masculine spirit. His lyrical moments were profoundly moving but death scene.. Believe me, I swear .. nobody, but NOBODY can does like he did yesterday. Musically he was perfect as expected and at times even dictated his way to conductor. He got enormous ovation after last aria and many, MANY people thought that HE was the star of the evening.
Anna also was better, mostly because she did not struggle with top notes, she simply skipped most of them at all and chose downward alternatives. As of me, personally, it did not spoil anything, whole image of Lucia was there and performed with wonderful flexibility, amazing beauty in pianissimo, touching and special coloring.
Rolando was happy after. Full of sparkling energy, as always gave his time and smile to everyone who came to express gratefulness to The Artist.
