ROLANDO in "Ö1 Klassik Treffpunkt" Interviewer: Ulla Pilz
A very special experience for the audience of the packed Villa Vicina: a familiar and warm togetherness with one of the most immense artists and human beings!
Even if I just try to describe all the topics in simple enumeration, it would take pages, this morning was so opulent in subjects!
The most important and interesting ones were:
- About Mozart Week 2026: using the theme "Lux Aeterna" to celebrate Mozart's 270th birthday and the "Mozart Week's 70th anniversary. The very varied programs, The usual and unusual venues (even on the buses in Salzburg), "The Old Tree" (Der alte Baum) in the Marionettentheater Salzburg. Countless best artists and orchestras. Three concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic. The light Mozart brings to our lives. A focusing on his final year (1791) with "The Magic Flute" staged by Rolando, The programs for Mozartweeks 2027-2028 which are also ready.
- Rolando is writing his fourth book
- L'Arpeggiata, its presence at the Mozart Week, L'Orfeo son io, Rolando's relations with this ensemble,
- Jordi Savall, his viola da gamba and his ensemble, "Le Concert des Nations" playing with ancient musical instruments. "Les Voix Humaines" of French Baroque composer Marin Marais. Savall, his deepest úconnection to the human voice through the viola da gamba,
- Mozart, the mysterious composer, Trazom (his name read or pronounced backwards), Rolando's best friend,
- Ulrich Leisinger, director of the research department of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg and musical director of "The Magic Flute"
- András Schiff, his piano art and his relation with Rolando
- The usual serenade to Mozart on 27th, January
- Rolando's singing and staging in New York
- His favorite karaoke song : "Somebody to love" from the Queen with Freddie Mercury
- The cantata of the young composer, Karim Zech will be performed by Rolando at the final concert of the Mozart Week 2026
And many more!
The conversation was accompanied by the singing of the members of the Ensemble BachWerkVokal: Vsevolod Chernyshev, bass, Alice Dreier, soprano, Gabriel Rupp, baritone, with arias of Sarastro, Pamina and Papageno and Gordon Safari at the piano. Their performance received a long and warm applause.
In an adorable moment, Rolando became Eisenstein from the Munich.performance of "The Bat" with his words : "Hallo, Mama!"
Rolando's "declaration of love", his words filled with illimite love and admiration for Salzburg were deeply touching.
And the brilliant concept of Rolando: "Mozart lebt!" (Mozart lives)

This fantastic encounter ended with his recording "Rainbow Connection" from the CD "La Strada"
