LUXURIOUSLY RICH OPENING CONCERT
with an immense surprise : ROLANDO as a narrator
As a nice tradition, the voice of Rolando greeted the audience, and, after the first piece of the evening, he personally repeated his words of welcome to the Mozartweek 2025, said a few words on the last Mozartweek and also this one, presented the artists, the orchestra, and wished the public a great experience.
The musical pieces of this fabulous concert were brilliantly chosen. As an "appetizer", this selection of music offered the "Ouvertüre aus Les Danaides" by Salieri, a vibrant, energetic piece played with absolute virtuosity by the fantastic Mozarteumorchester Salzburg.
Lauren Snouffer, a wonderful soprano who was the partner of Rolando in the Santa Fe Opera's production of "Orfeo" as La Música, sang an excellent "Kantate Arianna a Naxos" composed by Haydn.
The "Ballett Don Juan ou Le Festin de Pierre" closed the first part of the concert. The music of Gluck is attractive, filled with life, full of play and humor, with beautiful melodies. A marvelous, amazing surprise : Rolando "played" the narrative element, the story-teller. He performed Don Juan's descent into Hell in an astonishing, exciting mode. The accent of the words was that of an actor.
The second part was opened by the D minor piano concerto played by Gabriela Montero, a pianiste, composer and, as Rolando said, an "improviser" from Venezuela. Montero's magical and brilliant piano playing completely enchanted the audience, they didn't want to let her off the stage.
And the encore brought, personally for me, the most amazing moments of the evening. An incredibly rich and dazzling improvisation to Cherubino's aria from "The Marriage of Figaro" : "Voi che sapete"! Simply breathtaking!
Lauren Snouffer closed the program, singing the Scena "Ch'io mi scordi di te", a recitative and aria by Mozart. After her beautiful performance, the artist gave an encore.
The audience loved the always brilliant Mozarteumorchester for its prodigious sound and beautiful, precise playing and the magnificent wind instruments that played a special role in this evening under the powerful conducting of Roberto Gonzalez-Monjas, chief conductor of the orchestra.
What an energizing start for the MOZART WEEK 2025!
THANK YOU, ROLANDO!
