El "webisode" núm. 5 de la serie de Universal Music France (OffTV) está dedicado a Cucurrucucú, paloma, la canción núm. 4 del álbum México!, de Rolando Villazón. El compositor de esta conocidísima canción es Tomás Méndez, y los arreglos para el disco son de Gonzalo Grau. En el video, la grabación junto a los Bolivar Soloists.

Al inicio de las imágenes, Rolando nos cuenta que se encontró por primera vez con Gonzalo Grau en Paris, para hablar del trabajo que iban a realizar. Rolando le explicó las ideas que tenía sobre los arreglos, estaba también presente Efraín Oscher y poco a poco, fueron dialogando, escuchando las canciones. Había un piano, y Gonzo (Gonzalo Grau) aprovechó para ir aclarando como querían las cosas, en que tonos les gustaban. Hicieron allí un trabajo muy productivo, el inicio de todo. Rolando nos cuenta que no fue fácil, que él no tenía las armonias en su cabeza, pero tenía la idea sobre en que dirección quería ir, y que fue muy importante para él ser capaz de comunicar estas ideas.

ResponderEliminarThis is a real favorite of mine from an album filled with gems. The emotion in his voice in this is very tangible and visceral. Does anyone convey broken-hearted sorrow the way Roando does? He cries with his whole being. You would have to be made of stone not to melt at the sound of this voice. And then there's Estrellita, another song that brings me to my knees. But that is a whole other story for another day!

Rolando raconte que pour cucurrucucu Paloma, qu'il n'avait jamais chanté auparavant, il a beaucoup écouté la très grande artiste Lola Beltran pour pouvoir retransmettre les memes émotions qu'il avait ressenties en l'écoutant.

AgenteGDL! I just listened to both songs, and they are just incredible. First, Caetano Veloso's version of Cucurrucucú, paloma is so different from Rolando's. Veloso's is very dreamlike, almost eerie. And what a beautiful voice. It's very contained and internal, and when he sings the word "paloma" not in three syllables, but about six or seven, he shows a remarkable vocal dexterity and purity. Rolando's version is very raw by comparison, and I do not mean in the sense of unsophisticated. It's very visceral and immediate. Veloso's version is a Monet; Rolando's is a Van Gogh.
ResponderEliminarOK, Chavela Vargas blew my head off! What an amazing voice, amazing artist. She believes what she's singing. She lives it. I intend to listen to more of her. "Sad, sexy, and dark" all sound good to me.
