"IL RE PASTORE" - MOZART - SALZBURG 23 04 25

Un meraviglioso "Re pastore" a Salisburgo

La sera del 23 aprile ha avuto luogo a Salisburgo, nella bellissima Rittersaal del palazzo della Residenz, una rappresentazione del tutto speciale de "Il re pastore", opera composta da W.A. Mozart nel 1775. L'attuale rappresentazione (in forma semiscenica) ha quindi avuto luogo nello stesso giorno e nella stessa sede della prima, 250 anni dopo. Rolando ha guidato un'ottima compagnia di cantanti bravi, vivaci, simpatici, molto affiatati fra di loro e ben calati nei rispettivi ruoli: Emilly Pogorelc (en travesti) nel ruolo principale di Aminta ( il "re pastore", appunto), Serena Saenz in quello della di lui fidanzata Elisa, Tamara Ivanis in quello della principessa Tamiri, e Zachary Wilder in quello di Agenore, confidente di Alessandro e amante di Tamiri. 

Rolando è decisamente perfetto, e molto divertente, nel ruolo per lui consolidato di Alessandro, monarca eroico ma anche "pasticcione", ovvero pieno di buone intenzioni, ma che rischia, volendo rendere tutti felici, di renderli invece sommamente infelici. Alessandro infatti, nella sua buona volontà di insediare sul trono Aminta/Abdolonimo, e di dargli in sposa Tamiri, va molto vicino a separare le due coppie di amanti, causando la disperazione di tutti. Ma il lieto fine (siamo in un'opera settecentesca!!!) non può mancare: le due coppie sono ricongiunte secondo amore e giustizia, tutti sono finalmente felici, e Alessandro può ripartire verso altre imprese di conquista e di gloria. Veramente ottimo il cast vocale nelle rispettive parti, con una menzione speciale, da parte di chi scrive, per la bellissima voce della brava Serena Saenz nel ruolo di Elisa. Ma davvero bravi tutti! Rolando ha fatto risuonare la sua voce meravigliosa e possente nella sala, interpretando magistralmente le sue tre arie: nobile e maestoso nell'aria del primo atto "Si spande al sole in faccia" (quasi un'aria di tempesta, ma qui risolta da Mozart in tono leggero e sereno), divertentissimo e giocoso nell'aria "Se vincendo vi rendo felici", intensissimo e focoso nell'aria virtuosistica "Voi che fausti ognor donate". Alla fine di ogni aria, naturalmente ha riscosso grandi e meritati applausi, comunque tributati dal pubblico anche agli altri interpreti. Va menzionata anche l'ottima orchestra, diretta dal bravo e sorridente Giovanni Guzzo al primo violino. Enormi e prolungate ovazioni nel finale, con tanto di "Viva Mozart" rivolto da Rolando al suo compositore più amato. Serata indimenticabile per tutti i fortunati presenti in sala!

Mozart : Il re pastore

ROLANDO / ALESSANDRO AND THE GRAPES

After so many unforgettable Alessandro with Rolando in opera houses and concert halls all over Europe since 2011, this "Il re pastore" was a very special one : it was the celebration of its first performance on the same day 250 years ago and at the same place : at the Residenz in Salzburg, in the richly decorated beautiful Baroque "Rittersaal" (Knight's Hall).

Rolando was in magnificent form.

His very first note promised a greatest vocal experience, and the promise came true. With all its boundless beauty and richness, the voice presented the vibrant and energetic character of Alessandro, also full of humor, giving his perfect portrayal.

Rolando sang the extremely difficult arias with limitless ease and brilliance, he was breathtaking in ornamentations, with heart-stopping virtuosity. His acapella singing, the luxurious luminosity of the voice were enchanting.

A plate of grapes brought comic moments

"Se vincendo vi rendo felici,

Se partendo non lascio nemici,

Cue bel giorno fia questo per me!

De'sudori ch'io spargo pugnandoNon dimando più bella merce."

Before this marvelous aria, Alessando brought a plate with grapes, and with Agenore they gave some grapes to the members of the orchestra and also some spectators, putting them directly in their mouths.

The cast also offered superb female voices : Emily Pogorelc - Aminta; Tamara Ivaniŝ -Tamiri; Serena Saenz - Elisa. They performed superbly the spectacularly beautiful, long arias that Mozart

composed to these characters.

With Zachary Wilder, we had a fantastic Agenore. I heard this very special singer also in Budapest, in the same role. With his gorgeous voice, he performed a great, powerful Agenore.

As at each one of their concerts, the Camerata Salzburg with Giovanni Gzzzo played majestic Mozart music. In the overture and the instrumental parts, we could particularly listen to these wonderful musicians.

The success was tremendous, with endless, enthusiastic applause and standing ovation!

What a joy to have the occasion to see this superb performance on Stage+.

Serenata Latina

VOX HUMANA  AND HARP 

Among all forms of performing art, recital is my absolute favourite genre. To have the voice accompanied by a unique musical instrument gives a very close feeling between performer and audience.

Rolando's immense sensibility and deep love to sing, and not only sing but also to perform these songs with all his heart, is, at every single occasion, a new wonder. After having attended several "Serenata Latina" since 2021, I still feel its freshness.

With its very first notes, the magnificent voice went directly into the heart, and, as always, remained there even after the recital.

Each concert of the same series offerts Rolando the opportunity to change some details, to give new aspects and knowledge. 

He presented the pieces, the circumstances of their creation. and spoke about the role of Ginastera's widow and Xavier de Maistre in the birth of this very special and particularly intimate programme.

"Zamba", "Triste" and "Arrorró" by Ginastera opened the series of superb vocal pearls, followed by "Violetas", "Se equivocó la paloma" and "La rosa y el sauce" by Gustavino. The first part of the evening ended with "Deseo" by de Fuentes. "Al banco solitario" by Souviron and "Gitana" by Calvo.

In the second part Rolando sang "Arrunango" by Estévez, "Alfonsina y el mar" by Ramirez, "En estos dias" by Silvio Rodriguez, three songs by Nepomuceno ("Xacara", "Coração triste" and "Trovas")., "La Llorona" (a Mexican folk song)  and "La Bikina" by Gassón. 

In connection with "En estos dias", Rolando addressed some warm words to Silvio Rodriguez, Cuban poet and composer living in Cuba and whose works inspired him to become a singer. 

To me "La Llorona" is always the peak and highlight of every recital, with the absolute beauty of the voice, the profound lyricism of the singing and the emotional performance.

Between the songs, Xavier de Maistre and his harp brought beautiful instrumental moments. With his extreme virtuosity and very sensible harp playing offering all colors possible, it feels like you're hearing a whole orchestra. "Tico-Tico no fubá" by de Abreu and arranged for harp solo was beyond brilliant.

Three encores ("El árbol del olvido" by Ginastera, "Alma LLanera" by Diaz, "La vida"  by Silvio Rodríguez).

After so many occasions, I still am unable to choose my favorite of all the songs. The magic of Rolando's art makes every song a favorite.

THE VOICE was at its brightest, its greatest strength, beauty and finest. Its bright luminosity and radiance were breathtaking,     

Strongest applause, appreciation and standing ovations ended this splending evening!

Anche ad Heidelberg!

Una nuova data della "Serenata Latina" ha questa volta deliziato il pubblico del Congress Center di Heidelberg, la sera del 4 aprile. La grande sala (non bella, per verità, ma molto capiente) era stipata di spettatori fin nelle ultime file. Nonostante l'ampiezza della sala, la voce di Rolando è risuonata forte e potente come di solito. E' da dire che il suo magnifico timbro vocale risalta pienamente ed è una vera carezza per l'udito anche nelle mezze voci, di cui questo repertorio di pezzi latinoamericani offre una vasta possibilità. il programma è stato quello consueto, con l'inserimento ormai sperimentato dei tre pezzi brasiliani, anche in vista dell'imminente tournée di Rolando e Xavier in Brasile. Come al solito, Rolando ha anche inframmezzato i pezzi vocali e strumentali con vivaci spiegazioni e commenti che hanno suscitato l'interesse e il divertimento del pubblico. Per quanto riguarda la parte vocale, la personale preferenza di chi scrive va a "La rosa y el sauce", "Al banco solitario", "Alfonsina y el mar" (composta in ricordo di Alfonsina Storni, poetessa argentina morta tragicamente), "En estos dias", "La lllorona, e naturalmente ai tre splendidi bis: "El arbol del olvido", "Alma llanera", e la commovente e poetica "La vida" di Silvio Rodriguez. Come sempre, grande e meritato successo con infiniti applausi per entrambi gli interpreti, e grande soddisfazione del pubblico!

VIAGGIO DELL'ANIMA (Journey of the Soul)

SHOWCASE OF VOCAL EXCELLENCE

With his tremendously beautiful voice, Rolando took us on a real journey of the soul

Not only enchanting and delightful, his voice was deeply emotional, his performance infinitely sincere, allowing us to share all emotions. 

How to find the most captivating notes and moments in Rolando's opulent and luxurious programme full of the greatest favorites : "Armato il cor ...", "Amarilli mia bella", or the most sublimely sung "Si dolce é'l tormento" and the other madrigals from the "Scherzi musicali".... 

The second part of the concert brought the greatest one of all, "Rosa del Ciel" from "L'Orfeo", with Rolando's unique, incomparable singing and always inspiring performance.that make this piece a very special one..

Between the musical pieces, Rolando and Wolfgang Katchner said some words. 

Rolando talked about music, its role and its immense importance. 

The conductor presented the musical instruments, and concluded his presentation by looking at Rolando and saying that "The most important musical instrument is the human voice." 

He met Rolando two years ago in Dresden for the Orfeo performances, and they had fixed this programme. The conductor presented the story of Orfeo. 

When accompanying Rolando and also In the instrumental parts, lautten compagney BERLIN was beyond wonderful. To hear these amazing and rare instruments (zink, dulcian, orgel positive, baroque harp, ...) to make Renaissance / Baroque music is extremely exciting.          

Huge round of tumultuous applause, clapping, "Bravi" and standing ovations!!! 

Rolando gave encores : With his mesmerizing voice, he sang "Vi ricorda, o boschi ombrosi" and "Damigella tutta bella", this latter sung also for a second time after the most intense and enthusiastic applause of the audience.

"VIAGGIO DELL' ANIMA" - LAUTTEN COMPAGNEY BERLIN

"On February 9, Rolando Villazón continues his collaboration with Wolfgang Katschner and the lautten compagney, presenting a new concert program, Viaggio dell’ anima, at the Parktheater Iserlohn. Following their overwhelmingly successful performances of L’Orfeo at the Semperoper Dresden in 2023 and 2024, Viaggio dell’anima focuses on the journey of a modern person to the center of their soul, reflecting on the highs and lows of human existence. 

Villazón and the lautten compagney will reprise the program in March, with performances at the Kulturkirche Neuruppin on March 21, the Stadttheater Schaffhausen on March 26, the Kulturhaus Dornbirn on March 27, and the Theater der Stadt Schweinfurt on March 29.

The program highlights music of the 17th century, featuring Claudio Monteverdi and his contemporaries. In this period of Italian music, “Nuove Musiche” elevated accompanied solo singing, shifting the actions and feelings of the individual to the center of musical representations. Solo madrigals, cantatas, and opera came from this new style, which remains refreshingly relevant today."
