La chronique d'Eléonore :
IDOMENEO - THE FOURTH EVENING OF EMOTIONS
EXCELLENCE OF THE A CAPPELLA SINGING
The very complex staging of David McVicar has numerous layers, offering different interpretations, and rich in colorful, inspiring details :
Shadow play of Idomeneo's hands on the skull, symbolizing the god of the seas, Neptune. An exciting touch of Japanese culture with the blood red harakiri daggers transformed into fans (fans having served in old Japanese culture as a killing tool). Another thrilling touch, that of the Caucasus region with its sword dance, typical dance steps and traditional men black attire.
The presence of brass players in the proscenium box and the voice of the deity coming from the back, upper part of the auditorium added something very special to the emotional atmosphere.
The sheer beauty of the sound and the powerful singing of the choir were, once more, there.
For a fourth time, Rolando shared his exceptional Idomeneo with us, his singing and acting having been beyond outstanding
The magnificently sung and acted 'Fuor del mar' aria in Act 2 with orchestral accompaniment ends in an a cappella part..
The aptitude and clarity of the most beautiful voice were impressive, and Rolando's ability to sing it was distinguished.
In the final aria of the opera, 'Torna la pace' and the last scene, both his singing and acting united extremely intense emotional expression and nobility.
Throughout the performance, Rolando gave us absolutely heart-wrenching beauty.
The evening ended with a standing ovation!
KÖSZÖNÖM, ROLANDO!
