    Merveilleux Rolando.

  6. I agree, I would love to have a recording of this particularly because we rarely hear him sing in German.

I'm so sorry I don't speak German--I would love to hear the comments of the audience.

I thought it curious that Rolando and Lucia seemed to be entering the theatre from the main entrance rather than the stage door. Maybe Rolando wanted to rub elbows with his admirers and feel the love. Which I'm sure he did!

Hi Joanna (it's me again ;-)). The comments of his audience are nothing extraordinary, but if you like to know what they say, here we are:
In video 1 the lady says: "I hope Rolando is in good voice again because he has had some problems recently. But I hope everything will be alright and we are going to have a beautiful evening."
Rolando's statement is much more interesting. "I don't read any reviews because nobody knows better than I do what is happening in my life and in my career. What would I be reading? I would read what people think and what their opinions are. Everybody has got an opinion, that's fine. But what is REALLY happening - what went well, what went even wonderful, what must get better - I know all that, I don't have to read it."
In video 2 actor Nicholas Ofczarek understands Rolando; he says that singers are top athletes and their voices are their tools. It takes some time until a voice has recovered, and if a singer is not in top condition he is well advised not to perform.
Antonella Benedetti: "I think his voice is better than ever - but I am a passionate fan of him."
Question: Why does he get sunflowers? - Answer by Christa Leisenz: "Because they suit him well, he is beaming (as they are). To me he is the best singer in the world."
Rolando's final statement at the stage door: "I am very happy. It has been an important adventure for me to be back in Salzburg."
Oh yes, he and Lucia entered the building through the stage entrance, which is next to the public entrance. - I hope this does answer your questions. ;-)

  8. Rolando did not enter through the main entrance. This is the entrance to the stage door. There was already a little crowd of fans awaiting him. But he did not stop. He was patiently giving autographs after the concert, though.

  10. Wow, Klassikfan, thanks so much for the translation and to you and Anonimo for the stage door information! You're awesome!

Watch out, Klassikfan: you may have made yourself into the official German-to-English translator for the villazonistas! And we really need one because he gets so much press in German-speaking countries.

I am very glad to hear Rolando's approach to the reviews. I believe that keeps him sane in the face of the ridiculous pressures that are an intrinsic part of the world of opera.

    Viva Rolando! Bring on Vienna!
