Multi-talented international tenor Rolando Villazón uncaps his felt-tip pen and with a few expert strokes brings alive the beautiful courtesan Violetta Valery and her young admirer Alfredo Germont, in Verdi's great romantic opera, La traviata. His sparky animation and charming narration, recorded exclusively for Sinfini, takes us through their meeting, their brief joy and the tragic denouement of their great love story.
Rolando's new Mozart Concert Arias album is released internationally on 20 January and on 24 February 24 in the UK.

  6. Dear Teresa ,,,

I saw this new Villazón Toon earlier today via Sinfini Music's newsletter and I knew it wouldn't be long before you posted it! I love it!

Like the earlier "La Boheme" Toon, it really captures the essence of "La Traviata". The changing expressions of the characters (particularly Alfredo) are drawn so simply, yet convey the exact emotion! The backgrounds too - so cleverly created with just a few pen strokes. I really liked the "music note" chandelier in Act 1, and the disembodied heads at Flora's party - giving the impression that Violetta is living in some crazy nightmare.

Rolando's narration too, is indeed "charming". His words are well chosen - not too few, not too many. I particularly liked his description of Baron Douphol as "her old sugar-daddy!" I haven't heard that expression for years ... and it is so appropriate!

A delightful gem from our very talented Maestro! I am sure it will have the effect he hopes for, and stimulate opera novices to look in more detail at this great opera and others.

    Cheers from Shelley in Australia
