On Christmas Eve, BBC Radio 4 will broadcast a special recording of Start the Week, the weekly discussion programme presented by Andrew Marr.
The show was pre-recorded last week in the Royal Opera House’s Crush Room and saw Andrew Marr joined by star tenor Rolando Villazón, currently performing the role of Rodolfo in La bohème; Anna Nicole composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, vocal expert Mary King and neuro-psychiatrist Professor Michael Trimble. The guests discussed the power of the human voice and our reactions to it.
The show, which will be broadcast at 9am and repeated at 9.30pm, will include a musical contribution from the Jette Parker Young Artists.

I'm trying to figure out why theatre sometimes is still better than film-- I think it has something to do with the human voice and vibrations. One hears it, feels it, differently in the theatre. This is why I'm in favor of smaller spaces, so the artist can modulate his/her voice according the emotional moment, and the audience receives it as though it were an intimate confidence, something personal.
