VIAGGIO DELL'ANIMA

An extraordinary programme, it has been my absolute favorite ever since I first heard it with Rolando.

A heartwarming feeling to see that Rolando holds an exceptional place in the heart of the Salzburg public. He is greeted every time with an extremely warm and friendly applause and with enthusiastic welcoming shouts.

He sang the most splendid pearls of Monteverdi (Scherzi Musicali, L'Orfeo), Caccini (Amarilli, mia bella), Gabrieli (Dolcissimo ben mio), the sumptuous "Lasciate Averno" from "Orfeo" by Rossi, the luxurious "Udite, udite" and "O sospiro amoroso" by Obizzi ...  

As always, THE VOICE represented an extraordinary, captivating quality with its usual extreme beauty and powerfulness, able to express particular, deeply felt emotions.  

One again, the excellent lautten compagney BERLIN and Wolfgang Katschner offered their fascinating, marvellous music, the attractive performance of these great musicians enthralled the public.

   

Rolando's concerts end the same way without exception : Rapturous, endless applause, standing ovation, bravi ...

This time, as a warmest farewell to his passionate audience, deeply invested and highly engaged with his art, Rolando spoiled us with one of the most beautiful songs from "L'Orfeo" : "Vi ricorda, o boschi ombrosi"

UN ALTRO BEL "VIAGGIO DELL'ANIMA"

Il 17 giugno nella sontuosa sala grande del Mozarteum di Salisburgo Rolando ha tenuto, insieme alla lautten compagney Berlin diretta da Wolfgang Katschner, un altro concerto del ciclo "Viaggio dell'anima". Ed è un vero incantevole viaggio quello che il concerto fa compiere, attraverso madrigali ed arie del primo periodo barocco, in cui domina Monteverdi, e pezzi strumentali di vari autori dello stesso periodo. Il concerto è meraviglioso per chi ama il Barocco, non solo per la splendida musica, ma anche per la squisitezza dei testi poetici, che il programma di sala ha permesso di apprezzare anche a coloro che non conoscono l'italiano. L'intensità e la profondità dei sentimenti, il contrasto degli affetti, il fuoco delle emozioni, e il costante richiamo alla natura (sia musicale che poetico) permeano queste composizioni.

Rolando era visibilmente felice di esibirsi nella "sua" Salisburgo, davanti a un pubblico che lo adora (ma quale pubblico non lo adora?!), ed ha offerto il bellissimo repertorio vocale con la consueta intensità e generosità. Vertice emozionale del concerto l'aria "Lasciate Averno, o pene" dall'Orfeo di Luigi Rossi, davvero straziante nella sua bellezza.

Molto apprezzati anche i pezzi strumentali, eseguiti da un'orchestra esperta e ispirata, e gli interventi parlati esplicativi da parte sia di Rolando che di Wolfgang Katschner. Come di solito, gradevolissimo il bis con "Vi ricorda o boschi ombrosi" dal primo atto dell'Orfeo di Monteverdi.

Nel finale tutti molto felici ed entusiasti, artisti e pubblico, con grandi applausi, ripetute standing ovations, e il lancio nel parterre dei bouquets di fiori di Rolando e Wolfgang Katschner!

One minute of silence for the victims in Graz

Since the very first Sofa-Konzert, I have been amazed by Rolando's magnificent choice of artists, always ⁰"Maestros of maestros" in their respectives fields. 

In Salzburg, the selection was particularly special. Not only greatest artists, but also extraordinary and  "strange" instruments. 

A revelation to me, I have never seen neither a glass harmonica (Christa Schönfeldinger) nor a verrophone (Gerald Schönfeldinger). 

I was impressed by the appearance of these musical instruments and even more deeply by the incredible artistic skills with which these wonderful artists made their instruments sound. 

The glass harmonica is a very elegant, extremely attractive "object', a rotating series of glass bowls.

With her moistened fingers, Christa Schönfeldinger turned these bowls, while with her legs, she pedaled like a bicycle. 

As for the verrophone, a unique occasion was not enough for me to understand how it works. I tried to follow the fine movements of Gerard 

Schönfeldinger.

The sounds of these instruments were fabulous, very soft, it was a pleasant feeling to hear them.

These magnificent moments were crowned by the human voice, the most important musical instrument, this time in the form of whistle (Nikolaus Habjan).

Nicolaus Habjan was the fantastic director of "L'Orfeo" with Rolando in Salzburg, and now he whistled with absolute brilliance the virtuosic opera arias by Handel (Alcina, Giulio Cesare) and Mozart (Idomeneo, The Magic Flute) and, after the rapturous applause, standing ovation and enthusiastic "Bravi", he performed Adele's aria from "The Bat" by Johann Strauss. 

The delight and joy of the public could not have been greater.

As presenter of the programme, and interviewer with his exciting, uncommon questions which showed  a deep and sincere interest, Rolando added an immense bonus to the evening. His presence is always the guarantee of a warm and friendly atmosphere for these musical events spent in a good mood.

VIAGGIO DELL'ANIMA

A concert in Hamburg in a modern interior, elegant with its simplicity followed by this other one in a richly decorated church.

But the essential remained the same : Rolando's heavenly singing!

Even after 16 years of listening to it and after the marvel of the Hamburg concert, THE VOICE can still surprise me.

When it rose to the dome of the church, I felt like I had never heard anything so beautiful before. Ethereal beauty, clarity, all characteristically special, individual colours inherent only to Rolando.

His ornamentations, rhythmic decorations were brilliant, incredibly elaborate, with a deepest emotional content.

All the efforts to choose the most beautiful performance are in vain ... 'Si dolce e'l tormento'. 'Rosa del ciel', ''Vi ricorda, o boschi ombrosi', 'Possente spirto', 'Udite, udite ' ...

Each note was a jewel, each note possessed a unique value.

The Frauenkirche is an ideal venue for concerts. It has exceptional acoustics, I felt enveloped by the fabulous voice, like being bathed in its waves.

After a long, sustained applause, Rolando sang two encores:'Vi ricorda, o boschi ombrosi' with incredibly refined and delicate moments and 'Damigella tutta bella' in a dynamic and vibrant performance.

Singer and orchestra, the wonderful lautten compagney BERLIN under the direction of Wolfgang Katchner, lutenist, conductor, artistic director were in perfect harmony.

Like at every performance of Rolando, the audience gave him several standing ovations.
