Don Ottavio y Donna Anna |
(leer post 3-02-2011)
Il mio tesoro intanto
andate a consolar,
e del bel ciglio il pianto
cercate di asciugar.
Ditele che i suoi torti
a vendicar io vado,
che sol di strage e morti
nunzio vogl'io tornar.
A mi tesoro, en tanto,
id a consolar,
y de sus bellos ojos el llanto,
intentad enjugar.
Decidle que sus agravios
a vengar voy;
y que sólo
con el anuncio de muerte
he de regresar.
Liebe Teresa,
Thank you, Teresa, for these two gorgeous arias.
RépondreSupprimerThere are two things that strike me upon hearing Rolando sing these: first, that his approach is "non-traditional" and second, that these arias are stunningly beautiful and quintescentially dramatic. I am certain that before, during, and after Rolando's performances, we will be hearing many comments about how non-traditional this is and "not for purists."
I have decided that the best thing to do is accept that these comments are as inevitable as night following day. And I leave this subject for the experts to sort out; I cannot pretend to speak to the authenticity of Rolando's interpretation. I can only focus on a very basic, visceral reaction to this music.
I speak very personally, and at this moment not as a villazonista, but rather as a simple listener who hears a magically beautiful voice interpreting insanely difficult music and taking it to a level of drama that is very immediate, and makes you lean forward in your chair to hear more, and more, and more. Is there a more basic compliment one can pay an artist than, "Please, let me hear more"? I don't know that Herr Mozart could have asked for more.

It's very hard for me to stop listening to these two arias now - and what a wonderful memory: I was there in the first row! Unforgettable! Very rolandistic greetings to you!
Our Rolando is back! we must be so lucky!
