Hercules reborn! Rolando Villazón and Joyce DiDonato lead a dazzling cast in Vivaldi's opera Ercole sul'Termodonte, first heard in Rome in 1723 and reconstructed by conductor Fabio Biondi from the original libretto, historical scores and his intimate knowledge of the composer.
Like the mythical Hercules, hero of this opera by Vivaldi, dynamic tenor Rolando Villazón has triumphed over some huge challenges, including an operation in 2009 on his vocal cords. In this, his first complete studio recording of an opera for Virgin Classics, he takes on the title role of Hercules (Ercole), whose mission is to obtain the belt of the Amazon queen Hippolyta (Ippolita). She is portrayed by Joyce DiDonato, whose Virgin Classics album of Handel, 'Furore', gave ample evidence of both her seductive powers and her intrepid spirit in Baroque music.
Completing the cast is a dazzling line-up of virtuoso star singers: Diana Damrau, Vivica Genaux, Philippe Jaroussky, Patrizia Ciofi, Romina Basso and Topi Lehtipuu. The conductor is Italian Baroque specialist Fabio Biondi, directing his group Europa Galante.(texto que acompaña al video de EMI CLASSICS)
Creo que este Ercole sul Termodonte va a ser un magnífico trabajo de Fabio Biondi, su Europa Galante y todos los artistas que intervienen. Rolando inicia el video, al igual que inicia la relación de cantantes en la portada. ¡Y está extraordinario! Ya en un post anterior pudimos escuchar algunos extractos de audio, pero el fragmento que vemos en el audio es realmente bellísimo, con un Rolando totalmente dúctil vocalmente, potente, enérgico, muy expresivo: una muestra muy convincente de lo que podemos esperar de este álbum.
Va a ser una pasada, sin duda. De lo que he podido oir, la parte de Rolando me parece muuuy exigente. Estoy deseando oirlo!

ResponderEliminarRolando sounds amazing, the vocal agility, the fireworks, and drama are exactly what this music demands. What an spectacular cast. I would love to see him do this live.
And I don't think we've seen the end of the lion's mane! It's funny because early on it seemed that many of us had a hard time getting used to it, but it gradually worked it's way into our favor in a big way!

FANTASTIQUES !!! ils le sont tous fantastiques!! En premier Rolando le magnifique avec sa crinière léonine qui lui va si bien, la voix est superbe, et l'engagement total, comme toujours.

che delizia vedere e sentire cantare Rolando nuovamente nella musica barocca. Gli va cosi' bene. La dizione, la voce, l'interpretazione fervida, tutta l'anima che ci mette!!! tutto é adatto a sentirlo in Vivaldi o Monteverdi. Sono contentissima di questa registrazione e dopo il 29 nov.correro' a comprare questi due CD

All his arias sound perfect. My favourite one is "No, non dirai così". I would listen to it all day if I had the time to do so! I hope you enjoy it as well.
