ROLANDO VILLAZÓN, PUMEZA MATSHIKIZA - OPERA GALA ZLÍN 11/10/14

Rolando Villazón inició el pasado sábado en la ciudad checa de Zlín su gira de conciertos con arias de ópera y zarzuela, que le llevará por importantes teatros y auditorios europeos en las próximas semanas, acompañado de la soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, y del director Guerassim Voronkov. 

 Esta vez tenemos el lujo de tener dos crónicas complementarias, de Ivana y de Eleonore, ¡muchas gracias a las dos!

R. Villazón  et Pumeza Matshikiza  à Zlin – 11.10.2014

Zlín est une petite ville de Moravie, mais elle dispose d'un nouveau Centre de congrès moderne. Le bâtiment a été conçu par l'architecte Eva Jiřičná et a ouvert en 2011.
Fiharmonie Bohuslava Martinů Orchestra existe depuis 1946 et elle est reconnue dans le monde de la musique classique. Tournée de concerts avec cette star -  ténor mondial est un événement extraordinaire pour les musiciens, mais aussi pour la ville et ses habitants.

Le concert était sold out et il était un grand événement social. Beaucoup de visiteurs n´étaient pas des experts d´ opéra ou la musique classique, ils sont venus à la fameuse étoile – Rolando Villazón.

Et par les commentaires  je peux dire qu'ils n'ont pas été déçus! Au contraire, ils étaient excités et étonnés par son charmants manières, l'esprit, la spontanéité, la joie de la musique et le chant.

Avec  sa façon typique, très énergique, l'orchestre a été dirigé par maestro Guérassim Voronkov. Le premier morceau était un prélude à l'opéra Roi de Lahore par J. Massenet et puis vint RV (il était vêtu d'une veste noire avec bordure violet, il l'avait déjà à d'autres concerts). Ah! Tout est bien fini, il est mon air préféré et et il chante très bien. Le point culminant de la première partie a été pour moi E la solita storia del pastore , RV chante à merveille et le public a répondu avec enthousiasme. Le public a répondu avec enthousiasme aussi  à duet O soave fanciulla  avec le départ des deux chanteurs dans le foyer. L´amour ! L´amour !

Dans la deuxième partie, le public a eu beaucoup de plaisir avec  Caro elisir sei mio, une bière traditionnelle comme un élixir et danse au rythme.RV était vêtu d'une veste de velours rouge et puis aussi le même veston. (Pardon, mais je pense  qu'il ne sera pas dépenser beaucoup d'argent par les vêtements. Aussi cette robe les spectateurs ont vu. Je ne parle pas pour critiquer !! Au contraire !)

Un autre air incroyable a été Ya mis horas felices. Superbement chanté!

Quatre bis – Non puede ser – formidable ! Tonight et la dernière  traditionnelle brindisi de La Traviata. La troisième bis était (selon les explications RV) chanson africaine en langue maternelle de Pumeza - très amusante, RV était dans son élément !

RV a eu quelques problèmes dans l'aria Una furtiva lagrima - avec la prononciation, l'orchestre a également eu plusieurs inexactitudes, mais il est première, un peu de compréhension,  messieurs les critiques ( et madames aussi !!), je vous prie!

En ce qui concerne Pumeza,  je n'ai pas une vision claire. Je l'ai vu et entendu pour la première fois (dans l'enregistrement de Don Carlo, je n'ai pas remarqué).  Sa voix est très claire, elle chante sans effort, facilement, elle peut la figure également,, jouer,, elle agit naturellement et modestement, nous allons voir si elle attend l'avenir stellaire !!

Après le concert était une rencontre de signature avec de nombreux auditeurs enthousiastes (principalement avec beaucoup de spectatrices enchantées). Pour RV et PM trois canettes de bière (et  l'eau bien sûr) et la grande joie  du lancement réussi de la tournée pour nous tous !

Donc toi toi toi de tout  cœur à d'autres concerts !

An embarrassment of riches

After three thematic concert series (Bel canto, Verdi, Mozart),  this time Rolando offers a big  showcase for enchanting us with his incredibly colourful musical values. Three great partners accompany him in this program: Pumeza Matshikiza, Guerassim Voronkov and the Bohuslav  Martinu orchestra.

After a first occasion, it is difficult to evaluate the voice and the art of Pumeza Matshikiza. Her voice is  big, clear, she has beautiful pianissimi, sweetness and flexibility in her voice, she was a funny partner in the 'Elisir duo', and sang a beautiful 'Signore, ascolta', but one evening is not enough to make a right judgment.

In this hall with its perfect acoustics, we could here the rich sound of the orquestra underlined and enhanced by the dynamic, strongly personal and very empathic conducting of Maestro Voronkov, that I loved in his concerts with Rolando. There were a few minor inaccuracies and imprecisions, for example, with the wind instruments, but we attended the opening of this series, and the pieces are dfficult and some of them only rarely performed.   

Rolando started with Rodrigo's aria from El Cid, a best choice to fascinate completely the audience already in the very first moments of the concert. This music and this character are created for Rolando, he excels in expressing pain and despair, but also the deepest faith of Rodrigo. Rolando captures both drama and especially music with his soulful voice. Every time I hear this aria, I am mesmerized by the different shades he gives the words "O souverain, o juge, o pere", and by the way he sings 'Seigneur, je me soumets'.

This was the first time for me to hear live the "Lamento di Federico", one of my greatest loves with his voice since the 'Italian Opera Arias' CD.

To listen to this aria sang with the actual voice of Rolando, was a special and a particularly exceptional  gift. From the first notes to the last, I had tears in my eyes, and listened with closed eyes.  Moments of celestial beauty with infinite softness and sensibility!   'Anch'io vorrei dormir cosí...' - indescribable...

In  this first part, we had a duet from 'Les Pecheurs de Perles' and  'O soave fanciulla' with an extremely gorgeous,  exquisite and brilliant singing.    

There was standing ovations even after the first part!!!

In the second part, in 'Caro elisir, sei mio', Rolando offered uncountable new and amusing gestures, lively ideas, he charmed the audience who highly appreciated his performance.

And came one of his signature arias, 'Una Furtiva Lágrima'. Impossible to say how many times I heard it with him. Rolando has the magic to find every time unknown colours, to offer new feelings, to accentuate different words. Love the final part with his fabulous long-held notes.  The audience adored.

After the concert in Barcelona in 2011, now I had the greatest happiness to hear once again 'Ya mis horas felices'.  And for this song, I must keep silent,  the singing and the performing art of Rolando being the only ones that can describe themselves.  Words are unworthy. His power and charisma were irresistible.

In 'Si, Toréro quiero sé', we had a fantastic atmosphere!

To give a final 'knock out' to the audience, Roland sang 'No puede ser' as one of the four (!!!) encores.  How to find the right words to appreciate it enough? Again and again ... tears ...

'Tonight, tonight' was finest! We had also an african song and the 'Brindisi' to close this sparkling, shining, bright evening accompanied by standing ovations after the different pieces and after the end of the concert!

Picking only one highlight from such an embarrassment of choice is hard. For me, the Number One of this evening was the 'Lamento', as Primus inter pares with 'El Cid',  'Ya mis horas felices' and 'No puede ser'.
