"I'LL GIVE IT MY ALL"

Directly following the fabulous concert with Rolando, the singer, the audience had, without intermission and at the same place, the Glassal, the pleasure to meet Rolando, the human being, in company of Sarah Tysman.

The talks with Rolando are always extremely interesting, and this time, the atmosphere of the wonderful vocal experience added something special to this encounter.

It is a hopeless mission to mention every and each topic of this tremendously rich conversation. I try to highlight the most riveting and engaging ones, knowing that every choice is very personal.

The programme of the Copenhagen concert spans 300 years, with the words of Rolando : "This time was a change from the renaissance.". 

He also spoke about "Don Quijote de La Mancha" by Cervantes, about Monteverdi and the first opera ever, the genre putting together music and text.   

Rolando doesn't believe in borders, his absolute favorite composer, Mozart, was German, Italian, Austrian ... 

Some thoughts about Italy, the centre of the music, the Italian language being easy to sing. 

Rolando sang / sings in several languages, even in Greek, and mentioned the problem of the consonants. Related to the German language, talked about his  "Dichterliebe" and Loge, saying that for Mediterranean people this language is difficult.

Spoke about Domingo, who has the most beautiful voice, about Silvio Rodriguez and said that opera was not present in his childhood. 

Some words I loved much : "Motivation came through admiration". This was Domingo's LP "Perhaps Love", which led Rolando to opera.

And his great joy : had sung 11 operas by Mozart!

Rolando talked about Sarah Tysman with whom his first concert was in 2012, and the countless talents of this fantastic artist.

His beautiful words : "The recitals are duets, Sarah is not accompanying me, we are creating something together."

And the response of Sarah Tysman : "No one like Rolando!"

Mentioned his next "programme" : to take a ride on the roller coaster.

Touching words to close this talk rich in emotions and deepéy human moments : 

"I want to die on stage...every time I do, I'll give it my all"

A DIAMOND CROWN ON THIS GLORIOUS SEASON  2024/25.

Before his stay in New York for the directing work of "La sonnambula", Rolando gave a recital at Tivoli.

I could write that we had an exceptional evening, but that doesn't say anything. Every event of Rolando is exceptional.

An affectionate, long applause greeted him. The audience loved Rolando from the very first moment.

And the wonder also arrived in the very first moment, in Scarlatti's "Già il sole dal Gange", with the breathtaking beauty of the voice. 

After hundreds and hundreds of concerts, this beauty holds me in awe.

Rolando sang his marvelous repertoire including "Vergin tutto amor", "Per la gloria d'adorarvi", the three songs by Bellini : "Ma rendi pur contento", "Dolente immagine", "Vaga luna".

Since the first time I heard it in 2012, this last song has been for me one of the most outstanding peaks of Rolando's recitals. The emotive singing, the infinite softness of the voice were unique.

 

Two songs by Verdi followed : "Non t'accostare al urna" and "L'esule". In these wonderful pieces, Rolando offers his deepest dramatic power in the singing, accompanied by a fantastic emotional intensity. 

In Copenhagen, we had Sarah Tysman not only as piano accompanist, but also as a wonderful solo pianist. She played "Serenata" and "Danza" by Cilea with great sensibility and gentle delicacy. Virtuosity was also not lacking in her playing.. 

Two songs by Tosti : "Vorrei morire" and "Non t'amo più" in an absolutely unique, poignant performance by Rolando.

"A te" and "Ad una morta" by Puccini and "Rondine al nido" by Vincenzo de Crescenzo and  "Musica proibita" by Gastaldon, sung with a supremely soulful energy closed the official part of the concert. 

The profoundly enchanted public received four encores : "Terra e mar" by Puccini, "Il Poveretto" by Verdi, "Malia" di Tosti and "Te quiero  dijiste" by Maria Grever. 

As every evening with Rolando, this one also evoked the strongest emotions, with an immediate emotional response in the audience. Dynamics and timbre to express all feelings were present in every moment, to connect with his public on a very deep emotional level. 

This is that personal connection through his voice that makes Rolando's performance unparalleled. 

He creates a meaningful and unforgettable experience for the listener. 

It also is impossible to choose one song as "primus inter pares"... All performed pieces were "primi inter pares"

An evening with several massive standing ovations.
