A luxurious vocal afternoon - and also a very special one - in the luxurious frame of the Esterházy Palace

Thrilling experience of improvisation with a novelty : there was no printed program, we attended a profoundly inspiring surprise concert.

The well-known and beloved arias, songs and pieces were given in amazing arrangement and adaptation with virtuosity at its absolute highest.

This fantastic new element allowed Rolando to show his extraordinary, exceptional ability and talent for improvisation.

To listen to all these arias and songs in this new musical form offered a completely new feeling, with their different vocal "solutions", accompanied by the great, virtuoso Ensemble in their "Janoska Style".

ROLANDO was superb in this newness which offered a highly strong touch of jazz with its more "relaxed", unusual chords, distinct musical notes sung at the same time. He entirely surrendered to the music. Rolando became one with the music.

The artist and his magical voice gave a fully original, extremely exciting atmosphere.

Rolando's scenic presence is legendary. At this concert, his amazing "choreography" for each musical note and word of the lyrics was unsurpassable. As usual for his appearances, I am unable to choose just one or more highlights of his singing.

Rolando's human and artistic energy added to every moment captivated the audience.

An overpowering triumph with standing ovations.

Rolando fra… musica gitana, jazz e tango

Il 23 settembre Rolando ha tenuto a Eisenstadt (Austria) due concerti con lo stesso programma,  uno pomeridiano e uno serale, accompagnato dal Janoska Ensemble. Si tratta di un quartetto di musicisti di Bratislava ora residenti a Vienna, formato da due violini, pianoforte e contrabbasso, e costituito da tre fratelli, più un altro musicista. Il quartetto ha un suo personalissimo stile nell’arrangiare pezzi sia classici che di altre tradizioni musicali , con contaminazioni che si estendono dalla « gipsy music » all’improvvisazione  jazzistica, il tutto con un notevole virtuosismo molto apprezzato dal pubblico. Chi scrive ha assistito al concerto serale. Il programma ha visto una perfetta alternanza fra pezzi vocali e pezzi strumentali. Fra questi ultimi, interessanti gli arrangiamenti delle ouvertures delle Nozze di Figaro e del Fledermaus, nonché della Méditation dalla Thaïs di J. Massenet. 

Rolando ha eseguito nella prima parte le arie «Va’ dal furor  portata » di Mozart, « In un mar di acerbe pene » da L’anima del filosofo » di Haydn (evidente omaggio al musicista nella « sua » città e nella splendida sala affrescata dello schloss Esthérazy), e « L’esule » di Verdi. Nella seconda ha interpretato l’aria della canzone di Kleinzach dai Contes d’Hoffmann di Offenbach, la bellissima canzone argentina « El dia que me quieras » già cavallo di battaglia di C. Gardel, e la commovente aria d’operetta « Dein ist mein ganzes herz ». Due i bis, molto diversi fra loro, e offerti con grande generosità alla fine di ben due performances: « Morgen! » di R. Strauss e la canzone napoletana « Funiculi funicula »che ha mandato in visibilio il pubblico. Rolando, sebbene un po’ affaticato dai due concerti in giornata e dalle recenti recite dell’impegnativo ruolo di Hoffmann a St. Gallen, come al solito ha saputo infiammare ed entusiasmare l’uditorio, che gli ha tributato ripetute standing ovations, divertendosi molto lui stesso alle interpretazioni indiavolate  del Janoska Ensemble.
